Our Lady Queen of Angels
West San Fernando Valley, California Chapter
Guest speaker, Jess Echeverry is an advocate for families and women. She is a survivor of parental divorce and alcoholism as well as abuse. She suffered sexual abuse beginning at the age of 10 and her testimony includes dark times of sexual violence, becoming pregnant at 16, being forced to give up her baby and experiencing almost three years of homelessness on the streets of South Florida. In 1997, she met Charlie, the man she would eventually marry. This man would help her create an environment of authentic love that enabled her healing journey, her relationship with Jesus Christ and her eventual forgiveness and love for her attackers. Jess converted to Catholicism in 2008.
When Charlie heard the call to be a Deacon for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Jess walked the path with him. Together, Deacon Charlie and Jess have 5 children: two teenage boys still at home, two young adults out in the world, one lovely soul in Heaven and two English Bulldogs. Jess is a homeschooling mother as well as the founder and Executive Director of SOFESA, a 501c(3) non-profit ministry that has been serving Southern California
homeless and low-income children and their families since 1999.
Jess has previously appeared on EWTN's The Catholic View for Women, has been interviewed on Spirit Radio's Morning Show and Guadalupe Radio's Morning Glory. She has had the opportunity to share her testimony in various events throughout the country and has also been featured in a Catholic Answers Focus podcast. Inspired by the good things God has wrought in her life, she is presently penning her first book detailing her life experiences in a way that lifts up and enlightens others who are searching for ways to heal. We are blessed to have Jess as our speaker who, with God’s grace, is able to turn her past experiences into real, loving help for others. This will surely be a powerful testimony not to miss!
Magnificat is a ministry to Catholic women. Its purpose is to help Catholic women open more fully to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord, and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another through their love, service, and sharing the good news of salvation. It thus provides opportunities which will foster a desire to grow in holiness.
We serve the entire Archdiocese of Los Angeles and take the name "Our Lady, Queen of Angels"
